Mavis Staples is living, breathing history. She has crossed the genres of gospel, soul, folk, pop, R&B, blues, rock— even hip hop—over the better part of the last 60 years. Her latest project-“Livin’ on a High Note”–continues that crossover with M. Ward, Neko Case, Aloe Blacc, Nick Cave, Ben Harper, and more.

The Chicago native has had an incredible musical journey from a high school hit, to advancing the Civil Rights Movement with rallying anthems, and collaborating with modern artists.

Purdue Convocations’ 2016-17 season will feature more than 30 events, including an array of Broadway musicals, lectures, theatre, music and concerts.
