Akmus

“The ensemble is superb—it’s as much fun to watch these performers listen to one another as it is to hear them play.” — Boston Globe

Baroque music is a deep, vast treasure chest of astonishing virtuosity. On its sixth tour of the United States, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin—or Akamus—is letting stateside audiences in on Secrets of the Baroque. Founded in 1982, the Grammy®️-winning Akamus is among the world’s leading chamber orchestras. This program features lesser-known works by major names like Antonio Vivaldi (an extravagant, bizarre La Stravaganza concerto), George Handel (an operatic, dramatic Concerto Grosso selection), C.P.E. Bach (an oboe concerto) and Georg Philipp Telemann (the internationally influenced Sinfonia Melodica). It also features such nearly forgotten composers as Francesco Maria Veracini, Alessandro Scarlatti and Dutch nobleman Unico Wilhelm von Wassenaer—no end of baroque riches repurposed, ripe for joyous rediscovery.

PROGRAM
Veracini: Overture No. 6 in Gm
Van Wassenaer: Concerto Armonico No. 5 in Fm CPE
Bach: Oboe Concerto in B-Flat Major, Wq. 164
Intermission
Telemann: Sinfonia Melodica, TWV 50:2
A. Scarlatti: Concerto Grosso No. 5 in Dm
Vivaldi: Concerto for violin in Dm, Op. 4, No. 8, RV 249
Handel: Concerto Grosso in Dm, Op. 3, No. 5, HWV 316
