Purdue Convocations Bolsters Guest Safety With OPENGATE Technology
Guests will notice metal detectors at Elliott Hall of Music events moving forward.
Purdue University is installing OPENGATE entry systems to all of its venues to improve guest security and efficiency at entry points across campus.
OPENGATE reduces the need to search bags manually through its detection system. Guests will walk through two pillars that automatically screens bags, purses and other items on their person. If additional screening is deemed necessary by security personnel, guests will be asked to step aside so they can be screened manually to ensure safety.
The OPENGATE system will be introduced for events at Elliott Hall of Music beginning in 2026, with guest screening starting January 22 for Kinky Boots.
OPENGATE will be implemented at Loeb Playhouse and Fowler Hall at a later date. Additional details will be shared as they become available.
OPENGATE is an addition to the entry procedure at Purdue Convocations events; the current clear bag policy remains in place. For more information on all event policies, please visit convocations.purdue.edu/policies.
