Neat, unforced, beautifully articulated – The Times
Performing melodies seemingly as old as time itself on an instrument with origins of perhaps equal vintage, the German musician Tabea Debus has immersed herself in the through line of musical history from antiquity to the present. In Ohrwurm (German for “earworm”), Debus examines how melodies from every era of recorder repertoire transcend place, form and time. Affording an up-close and intimate experience, this exclusive salon engagement is perfectly suited both to the exquisitely detailed sonic world of the recorder and its accompaniment—in this case, the lute, as performed by Paul Morton. Debus has earned awards and accolades across four continents, including the Concert Artists Guild International Competition in 2019. When not on stage or in the studio, she still educates audiences and schoolchildren about the recorder’s history, which dates back to the 15th century but expanded in size, sound and possibility in the 20th century. Letting early melodies play alongside contemporary works, Ohrwurm will take you on a journey that fills your ears—and soul—with music to remember.
