Two actors in colorful period costumes perform on stage outdoors, delivering a dynamic introduction to Shakespeare’s Othello: one gestures passionately while the other looks serious, standing near a textured wall with a large, blue-stained area.

ABOUT An Introduction to Othello

cast of Othello: two people in colorful Renaissance costumes stand close together, smiling. One wears a blue dress and yellow headband; the other wears red and white with a red cap. Another person in dark clothing stands in the background, adding to the festive atmosphere.

On October 14 and October 15, UK theatre company The Lord Chamberlain’s Men brings a historically informed production of Shakespeare’s Othello to Purdue. Staying true to the Elizabethan era, the performance features an all-male cast with period costumes, music, and dance.

Ahead of the performances, enhance your evening with a pre-show conversation exploring one of Shakespeare’s most powerful tragedies. Join Purdue Cornerstone Integrated Liberal Arts faculty Tülin Ece Tosun as she introduces the world of Othello, its unforgettable characters, and the timeless themes of love, trust, ambition, jealousy, and identity that still resonate with audiences. Whether you are seeing Othello for the first time or revisiting a classic, this engaging talk will provide fresh insights and historical context to deepen your appreciation of the performance.
