David Bowie’s Blackstar inspires Instagram movie

UNBOUND: A ★ InstaMiniSeries is a 4 minute movie inspired by David Bowie’s latest album, Blackstar. Premiering today on Instagram, UNBOUND is the 4th InstaMiniSeries that offers a new episode every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

The 16 episode series stars Tavi Gevinson and Patricia Clarkson and was made possible by David Bowie’s “unmediated access” to Blackstar before the album was released last month. Bowie’s final album – released a few days before his death – features the Donny McCaslin Quartet. McCaslin plays saxophones, Jason Lindner is on keyboards, Tim Lefebvre plays electric bass, and Mark Guiliana is on the drums. Purdue Convos fans may remember Donny McCaslin from his 2014 appearance at the Purdue Jazz Festival.

(Bowie) allowed us to create our own visual interpretations of his songs, with no limits or preconditions on his part. Completed in December 2015, UNBOUND takes the audience on a journey of evocative images inspired by the moods suggested in the album’s music, lyrics and artwork.
