Chicago’s Mucca Pazza marching to Purdue in September

Our beloved Purdue “All American” Marching Band was the first of its kind to break military ranks and form the Block “P” on the football field—thus a tradition of tight field formations was formed. Mucca Pazza, on the other hand, is anything but a traditional marching band. Just in time for football season, they are next up on the Fall 2021 Convos lineup. See schedule below.

Formed in a steel mill parking lot in Chicago, Mucca Pazza borrows marching band traditions and combines them with mismatched thrift shop get-ups to create a street theatre spectacle with an implausible instrumentation that includes electric guitars, violins, and even a cello. Since 2004, they have brought their merriment to Lollapalooza, Montreal Jazz Festival, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert.

Blowing in to West Lafayette in September, these Windy City misfits will roam campus with two days of FREE pop-up performances to celebrate Purdue’s Weeks of Welcome. Just don’t expect them to line up to form a floating “PURDUE” in Ross-Ade Stadium.
