Mucca Pazza

John Phillip Sousa would not be amused.

Chicago Tribune

Like any marching band, you’ll hear Mucca Pazza coming before you see them. That’s where the similarities end. Mucca Pazza’s original genre-bending compositions are inspired by everything from surf rock to Stravinsky. Then there are the brightly colored, mismatched thrift-shop get-ups, a squad of absurdist cheerleaders, and implausible instrumentation that includes electric guitars, accordions, violins and even a cello. A darling of Chicago’s underground music scene since 2004, Mucca Pazza has performed at Lollapalooza, Lincoln Center, the Montreal Jazz Fest and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert Series. At Purdue, this merry band of misfits will roam campus, providing a variety of free pop-up performances at different spaces. Fusing DIY punk aesthetics, Balkan brass and marching-band maximalism, Mucca Pazza presents an eminently danceable embrace of the absurd.
