Friends Friday: Marti Gutwein
Welcome to Friends Friday! While we are all trying to “flatten the curve” we wanted to highlight different Friends of Convos. In case you’re not aware, Friends of Convos is an influential group of arts supporters who bring world-class performances to our community! Each year, they help bring performances to our community and subsidize tickets for seniors, Purdue students, and P-12 students.

This week we’re highlighting Friends of Convos Marti Gutwein!
Introduce Yourself!
I’m a Purdue grad (BSPharm, 1987) and moved back to West Lafayette from Rensselaer almost thirteen years ago. I enjoy travel, reading and tennis, and volunteer in the community through Lafayette Rotary. We have three children, all grown, and two Littles that we adore. One of my proudest accomplishments is trekking to Everest Base Camp in May 2019.
How did you become a Friend?
My husband and I are both Purdue alum and enjoy living near campus. We are members of both the Friends of Convocations and John Purdue Club, and love all things Purdue! We love the diversity of programs that Convocations brings to our community and believe it greatly adds to the quality of life. We became a friend to support the programs and keep them coming!
What was your favorite show this season (or past) and why?
I have to say my favorite program every year is TEDxPurdueU, but then I am a bit partial as I had the privilege to volunteer with the TEDxPurdueU organization for three years. We have seen so many amazing shows at Purdue so it is hard to pick just one. One of my other recent favorites was the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. They performed Shostakovich’s Symphony #5 and it left me breathless.
Who would you love to see Convos bring to campus?
Hamilton of course! Rock E Bassoon, a rock bassoon group out of Indianapolis, would be another fun concert.
