Cellist Gabriel Royal will present four free performances at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – From “Brooklyn’s best busker” to collaborations with high-profile pop powerhouses, cellist Gabriel Royal will perform multiple shows in different locations on and around Purdue University’s campus Nov. 14-15.

All performances are free and open to the public. These performances are presented by Purdue Convocations with support from the Purdue Student Concert Committee and the Purdue Student Fee Advisory Board.

Royal will perform at Greyhouse Coffee, 100 Northwestern Ave., West Lafayette, at 6 p.m. Nov. 14. There will be three performances on Nov. 15, including noon at the Ford Dining Court; 3 p.m. in the common area of the Purdue Memorial Union; and 7 p.m. in the Purdue Memorial Union’s 1869 Tap Room.

In 2011, singer-songwriter Royal had a cello, a dollar and a dream. He began performing in New York’s subways — bringing serenity to the surliest commuters and earning the title of “Brooklyn’s best busker” from the Huffington Post. Influenced by Stevie Wonder’s gracious grooves and Burt Bacharach’s jazz-pop, Royal has collaborated with contemporary powerhouses like John Legend, Flying Lotus, James Blake and Janelle Monáe, and released a critically acclaimed debut album.

At Purdue, Royal will inspire students and the community with performances and workshops in unexpected places as Outreach Artist-In-Residence.
