The Westerlies trace the sound of the 20th Century through a variety of American musical traditions. From the art songs of Charles Ives, to the spirituals of the Golden Gate Jubilee Quartet, to the Jazz standards of Duke Ellington, and the gut-wrenching melodies of songwriters Woody Guthrie, Judee Sill, Arthur Russell, and Robin Holcomb, The Westerlies forge a captivating narrative through jazz, classical, and folk languages. Reimagining the stylistic intricacies, physical techniques, and textures of these singular American voices through their own expressive palette, The Westerlies translate seemingly disparate musical languages through their horns to find one common American voice.
