SUMMARY:Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Live in Concert
DESCRIPTION:Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Live in Concert\n\nBUY TICKETSPICK5+SAVE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE SHOW\n\n\nFeaturing a soundtrack that blends symphonic orchestral music with hip-hop\, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Live in Concert pairs a screening of the Academy Award® winning animated film with a full orchestra\, band\, and turntables live on stage. \n\n\n\nAcademy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning composer Daniel Pemberton created a sprawling score of original music that is complemented with song contributions by Post Malone\, Lil Wayne\, Jaden Smith\, and Nicki Minaj. The hip-hop based score results in a sonic universe that is woven throughout the fabric of the film\, supporting its themes of resilience and universal heroism. The Broadway Sinfonietta\, an all-women and majority women-of-color orchestra will perform the music live with DJ Damage on turntables. \n\n\n\nSpider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales\, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse\, where more than one can wear the mask. A superhero classic for a new generation\, Miles is an Afro-Latinx teen who is bitten by a radioactive spider in the subway and gains mysterious powers. Joined by spider-heroes from parallel universes\, Miles must master his new powers to save his city from a villain who could destroy it all. \nVISIT TOUR WEBSITE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is one of my favorite scores I’ve ever written\, so I am ridiculously excited we get to perform the world’s very first Spider-Verse concert. SUMMARY:Frida: Viva la Vida
DESCRIPTION:The purely visual contributions of famed artist Frida Kahlo could fill volumes of art history text. But the documentary Frida: Viva La Vida delves as deeply into the artist’s life as it does her stunning imagery exploring her influence on artistic freedom and feminism\, dissecting her dual life as a pioneering artist living in a volatile relationship with Diego Rivera\, and recreating her tortured masterworks like “The Two Fridas\,” “The Broken Column” and “The Wounded Deer” via deft filmmaking and powerful reenactments. SUMMARY:Third Coast Percussion
DESCRIPTION:Whether tranquil or troubled\, water is an uncompromising force of nature and indomitable global connector of countries\, economies and cultures. Exploring that idea with an “inspirational sense of fun and curiosity” (Minnesota Star-Tribune)\, Grammy® winners Third Coast Percussion present Paddle to the Sea. Inspired by a children’s book and Oscar®-nominated film\, this film-with-live-soundtrack journey follows a Canadian boy who carves a wooden figure and sets it on an epic journey across lakes\, rivers and\, eventually\, the Atlantic Ocean. Accompanying the film live\, Third Coast interweaves original compositions with water-inspired works from Philip Glass\, Jacob Druckman and Zimbabwe’s Shona people. Drawing on water’s own dynamics\, Paddle is alternately spirited and serene—letting audiences consider mankind’s impact on waterways while contemplating their exuberant majesty and infinite possibility. \nPRE-SHOW TALK | 7PM | STEWART CENTER 310\nJoin ethnomusicologist and percussionist Dr. Nolan Warden for discussion about the evening’s performance.
