SUMMARY:The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart
DESCRIPTION:2023 Innovative Performance\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Watch Video\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\nProduced by Double M Arts & Events\, LLC and the Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh\n\n\n\n\n\nDIGITAL PROGRAM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA wickedly joyous mix of music\, revelry and enchantment. The Guardian READ MORE\n\n\n\nSit a spell\, sip a pint\, and be spirited away to bewitching borderlands by this moving and magical comic fantasy. Based on the globally-acclaimed production by the National Theatre of Scotland\, the original artistic team of The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart has reunited to bring the runaway hit of the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe Festival back to the stage–and back to Convos where we had a sold-out run in 2012.  \n\n\n\nInspired by the Scottish Border Ballads–centuries old songs\, speaking of supernatural occurrences along the England-Scotland border–the tale finds uptight academic Prudencia Hart departing one wintry morning for a conference in the borderlands. What awaits her is an enchanting and suspenseful journey of devilish encounters\, wittily wild karaoke\, and dreamlike self-discovery. Renowned Scottish playwright David Greig connects the dots between contemporary themes\, Scottish culture and identity\, and the grand tradition of writing for the stage\, by weaving a tale set in the current time but using largely rhymed verse. With razor-sharp turns\, Prudencia is manically funny and soul-searching\, often within the same stanza.  \n\n\n\nPrudencia is a full-tilt immersive theatrical experience. The actors will madly traverse our historic Duncan Hall\, magically transformed for the night into a Scottish pub. With action everywhere around you\, Prudencia takes you on an epic journey of vivid imagination. \n\n\n\nThe Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart… “Wow!”Supporting Innovative Performances at Purdue takes a village. Ticket sales for Prudencia covered less than 50% of the total expenses of this presentation—so without the embrace of adventurous arts lovers like you\, this rollicking journey across the borderlands would not have been possible\, by gosh…  READ MORE\n\n\n\nBefore you go\n\n\n\nWe’re thrilled to invite you to this full-tilt immersive experience. Please give yourself ample time for street parking around Duncan Hall. \n\n\n\nDoors open 60 minutes before curtain and a cash bar is available. \n\n\n\nDue to the nature of the performance\, latecomers cannot be seated\, so come early and enjoy a cèilidh – the grand Scottish tradition of good times\, good friends\, and aye\, yes\, the fruits of the pub\, beginning 60 minutes prior to curtain. \n\n\n\nRecommended for ages 14 and up. Contains moments of mild profanity and adult references deliciously delivered in rhymed verse with a Scottish accent. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSHOW SPONSORS

SUMMARY:Dökk - CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE: October 26\, 2021\n\n\n\nDökk\, by the Milan\, Italy-based company\, fuse*\, was scheduled to perform in Loeb Playhouse on February 3\, 2022. Due to COVID-19 related complications\, the U.S. tour has been cancelled.  While the Convocations team is currently working to reschedule the performance for a future date\, all tickets purchased for the performance will be refunded automatically. \n\n\n\nIf you purchased with a credit card\, the credit should appear on your billing statement within the next 7-10 business days. Any payments made by cash or check will be refunded via university check and mailed to the current address on file within the next 30 days.  Call (765) 494-3933 for more information. \n\n\n\nWhat if data were a dance partner? Dökk is a daring\, dynamic journey into the subconscious\, the latest expression of artistry through emerging digital technology from Italy’s fuse*. Named after the Icelandic word for “darkness\,” Dökk uses software to synthesize real-time data from four simultaneous sources: Dökk’s musical score; the movement of performer / choreographer Elena Annovi; her heartbeat; and emotional analysis of social media trends at that very moment. This data mashup is vividly visualized through a stunning 3D projection environment. As these data sources shift and change\, each performance of Dökk becomes one-of-a-kind—evoking life’s own random\, unforeseeable whims. Both experimental and empirical\, Dökk illuminates the invisible connections among us all in an intimate\, immersive fusion of light\, sound\, space and movement. \n\n\n\n\nAn unexpected synesthesia of pure cognitive escape.— Exibart \n\n\n\n\nThis engagement with fuse* is a continuation of Purdue Convocations’ Innovator-In-Residence platform—a forum for the investigation of new works that examine\, question and propose ideas in the fluid nexus where humanity and technology intersect. This production further extends the discussion of real-time interactivity from our previous engagement in this series\, the AI-driven musical improvisation of Shimon Robot and Friends—which Convocations presented in February of 2017. \n\n\n\nPROTECT PURDUE POLICIES

SUMMARY:Mucca Pazza
DESCRIPTION:John Phillip Sousa would not be amused. \nChicago Tribune\n\n\n\nLike any marching band\, you’ll hear Mucca Pazza coming before you see them. That’s where the similarities end. Mucca Pazza’s original genre-bending compositions are inspired by everything from surf rock to Stravinsky. Then there are the brightly colored\, mismatched thrift-shop get-ups\, a squad of absurdist cheerleaders\, and implausible instrumentation that includes electric guitars\, accordions\, violins and even a cello. A darling of Chicago’s underground music scene since 2004\, Mucca Pazza has performed at Lollapalooza\, Lincoln Center\, the Montreal Jazz Fest and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert Series. At Purdue\, this merry band of misfits will roam campus\, providing a variety of free pop-up performances at different spaces. Fusing DIY punk aesthetics\, Balkan brass and marching-band maximalism\, Mucca Pazza presents an eminently danceable embrace of the absurd. \n\n\n\n\n\nPerformances Times and Locations\n\n\n\nThursday\, September 9 \n\n\n\n\nKrach Lawn 11:45 AM\nPurdue Bell Tower 1:15 PM\nMemorial Mall 2:30 PM\n\n\n\n\nFriday\, September 10 \n\n\n\n\nPurdue Bell Tower 4:20 PM\nPurdue Arch at Grant and State 5:20 PM\nGreyhouse Coffee plaza (Northwestern and State) 6:20 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\nPROTECT PURDUE POLICIES \n\n

SUMMARY:Scott Silven's The Journey

And our audiences weren’t alone\, as Illusionist’s Table toured worldwide to critical acclaim. \n\n\n\nNow\, with a maximum of 30 participants per show\, this remarkable interactive experience explores your own sense of home\, connection and the power of place to transform us. Join others across the world for a virtual experience like no other\, interact directly with Silven\, and help shape the evening’s mesmerizing events. \n\n\n\nDiscover the path that connects you to Silven’s past\, your own present\, and a collective future. The Journey awaits. \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nTHE SHOW’S ORIGINS\n\n\n\nWhen Silven returned to his home in rural Scotland\, coming off the heels of a sold-out\, highly-acclaimed world tour\, he found himself in a place from his childhood that was\, all at once\, unfamiliar. Thinking about concepts of home\, place\, and connection\, Silven created a digital experience to explore this current moment of isolation and how it can positively affect our future. \n\n\n\nFor The Journey’s world premiere season\, Silven teamed up with an award-winning creative team including Broadway and West End award-winning veterans Jeff Sugg (visuals) and Gareth Fry (sound)\, Tony winner for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The Journey is directed by Allie Winton Butler\, one of Scotland’s leading creative talents. It is written by Silven and Rob Drummond. The creative producer is Michael Mushalla. Music is an original score composed by Jherek Bischoff. \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nABOUT SCOTT SILVEN\n\n\n\nScott Silven who pushes the boundaries of his craft by creating stylish\, smart\, and uniquely immersive performances for stage\, screen and now in the digital realm\, has mesmerized audiences across the globe for more than a decade.  He is a modern-day marvel like no other. \n\n\n\nHailed by Vogue as a ‘world-renowned mentalist’\, his work has been described as ‘a marvel’ (The New York Times)\, ‘mesmerizing’ (Town and Country) ‘truly astonishing’ (The Daily Beast) ’unforgettable’ (Entertainment Weekly) and theatre that ‘wows everyone’ (The New Yorker) through a combination of ‘elegance\, sheer mind power\, and profound philosophical insight’ (Manhattan Digest). The Journey follows previous shows including two major sold-out runs in New York and an extensive tour on the international stage including headline engagements with leading arts organizations including the Melbourne International Arts Festival\, Sydney Festival\, Stanford Live\, Luminato Festival\, Seattle Theater Group\, and Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. \n\n\n\nAs a child\, Silven reveled in mystery. His innate fascination with the enigmatic and unexplainable guided him to the craft of illusion at a young age and evoked a sense of wonder that he knew he had to share with others. From stage to screen\, Silven’s objectives remain absolute: to orchestrate an awe-inspiring experience\, to reveal the mysterious side of human nature\, and\, ultimately\, to lead his audiences to a place that suggests untold possibilities\, a place that challenges perceptions; a place that allows them to look at the work\, and themselves\, in an extraordinary way. \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSupport from \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease Note: Before The Journey begins\, you will receive prompts via email in advance of the production. These prompts and your responses will help inform the evening’s events.
