The St. Lawrence String Quartet\, the current ensemble-in-residence at Stanford University\, proposes a fresh look at that musical menu. Wang began playing at age 4 in Beijing\, won her first competition at age 5 and studied at Beijing’s prestigious Central Conservatory of Music. When the alchemy is just right\, the results are warm\, vibrant\, life-affirming. Such are the commanding sounds of Paris-born Camille Thomas\, a rising-star cellist delivering dynamic virtuosity on her 18th-century Gagliano cello\, nicknamed the Château Pape-Clément after Bordeaux’s oldest wine estate. Thomas earned a first-prize finish at 2014’s European Broadcasting Union Competition and a spot on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list.
