The production\, remounted from the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis premiere in 2019\, was experienced by 30\,000 people\, not to mention hundreds of thousands more around the world who watched The MET: LIVE in HD rebroadcasts. Notably\, The Met restaged “Fire” again in the 2023-2024 season as a testament to its unparalleled success and achievement.  \n\n\n\nBlanchard is already a celebrated artist with seven Grammy® Awards\, two Oscar® nominations\, numerous acclaimed film scores and albums\, and his recent appointment as Executive Artistic Director for SFJazz\, but with this work\, he created a new cultural paradigm\, breaking barriers along the way. Based on the 2014 memoir of the same name by The New York Times columnist\, Charles M. Blow\, the story is an excavation of a painful past and the desire to move beyond it.  \n\n\n\nThis “concert excerpt” version\, adapted for Terence Blanchard and his band\, the E-Collective\, features the intrepid Turtle Island String Quartet and guest soloists\, plus visuals by Andrew F. Scott. This work reveals the depths of Blanchard’s capacity to create a new musical world filled with pathos\, humanity\, and resilience. \n\n\n\nPerformed by Terence Blanchard and The E-CollectiveFeaturing Turtle Island Quartet and vocalists Adrienne Danrich and Norman GarrettLibretto by Kasi LemmonsBased on the book by Charles M. Over the years\, Kronos has performed more than 1\,000 pieces\, played Carnegie Hall and collaborated with the likes of Philip Glass\, Patti Smith and Steve Reich. \n\n\n\nIn their return to Purdue University\, the San Francisco ensemble continues to challenge and reimagine what a string quartet can be on its Five Decades tour. A recent concert review saw The New York Times rave about Kronos’ “malleable virtuosity” and “wellspring” of memorable music. \nVISIT ARTIST WEBSITE\n\n\n\nBreaking Boundaries: 50 Years of Musical Innovation with Kronos Quartet\nAs part of our exploration into the world of Kronos Quartet\, we had the privilege of conducting a pre-show interview with David Harrington\, the violinist and founder of Kronos Quartet. In this illuminating conversation titled “Deep Roots: A Conversation with David Harrington\,” Harrington shares insights into the quartet’s journey\, their pioneering collaborations\, and the creative process that drives their musical innovation. The interview was conducted by Judd Danby\, a composer\, jazz pianist\, and music educator\, adding depth and context to Kronos Quartet’s remarkable story. \nREAD MORE & WATCH INTERVIEW\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Kronos Quartet has broken the boundaries of what string quartets do. SUMMARY:Silkroad presents Home Within
DESCRIPTION:Terence Blanchard’s Fire Shut Up In My Bones: Excerpts in Concert\n\n\n\n\n\nExcerpts from Terence Blanchard’s groundbreaking opera\, Fire Shut Up In My Bones\, live with The E-Collective\, Turtle Island Quartet\, and guest vocalists. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n \n ABOUT Terence Blanchard’s Fire Shut Up In My Bones: Excerpts in Concert\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is home? Is it where you grew up? The place that contributed most to who you’ve become? Perhaps it’s a dynamic concept most strongly defined by deep emotions. The latest production from Silkroad captures this impressionistic reflection in Home Within. Syrian clarinetist Kinan Azmeh and Syrian-Armenian visual artist Kevork Mourad created this audiovisual meditation on loss\, longing and the tragedy of Syrian conflict that has claimed over a half-million lives. With the Silkroad Ensemble (founded by Yo-Yo Ma to foster cross-cultural exchanges)\, Azmeh and Mourad expanded Home Within to include cello\, percussion\, voice and oud—their music melding together as animation augments Mourad’s real-time image-making. The result is a work both haunted by history and buoyed by the hope that those who still seek their home will soon discover it. \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOne of the most visionary arts initiatives of our time – WNPR \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n Know Before You Go\n \n \n\n\n\n \n Manage Tickets\n \n\n\n\n\n \n Directions & Parking\n \n\n\n\n\n \n Program\n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n \n Generous support from\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nConvos is Self-Supporting.Your Ticket Purchases and Generous GiftsPower it All! \n\n\n\n \n Learn More\n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\nHome Within artists\n\n\n\n\nKinan Azmeh\n\n\n\nKevork Mourad\n\n\n\nLayale Chaker\n\n\n\nShawn Conley\n\n\n\nKaren Ouzounian\n\n\n\nIssam Rafea\n\n\n\nShane Shanahan\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInterview with the artist\n\n\n\nWatch the discussion with Kinan Azmeh and Kevork Mourad. \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Watch Video\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n \n Enhance your experience\n \n \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n BUILD YOUR OWN SEASON \n \n \n PICK5 + Save \n\n Did you know that if you buy 5 shows or more (not 5 tickets)\, you save an average of 10% off single-ticket prices? SUMMARY:Tabea Debus\, recorder
DESCRIPTION:Terence Blanchard’s Fire Shut Up In My Bones: Excerpts in Concert\n\n\n\n\n\nGerman musician Tabea Debus and lutenist Paul Morton perform ‘Ohrwurm\,’ exploring centuries of recorder melodies. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n \n ABOUT Terence Blanchard’s Fire Shut Up In My Bones: Excerpts in Concert\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPerforming melodies seemingly as old as time itself on an instrument with origins of perhaps equal vintage\, the German musician Tabea Debus has immersed herself in the through line of musical history from antiquity to the present. In Ohrwurm (German for “earworm”)\, Debus examines how melodies from every era of recorder repertoire transcend place\, form and time. Affording an up-close and intimate experience\, this exclusive salon engagement is perfectly suited both to the exquisitely detailed sonic world of the recorder and its accompaniment—in this case\, the lute\, as performed by Paul Morton. Debus has earned awards and accolades across four continents\, including the Concert Artists Guild International Competition in 2019. When not on stage or in the studio\, she still educates audiences and schoolchildren about the recorder’s history\, which dates back to the 15th century but expanded in size\, sound and possibility in the 20th century. The New York Times\n\n\n\nThe New York Times hailed young Italian pianist Beatrice Rana as “one of the most insightful and prodigiously gifted artists of the new generation.” In 2013\, she earned the Silver Prize and Audience Award at the prestigious Van Cliburn competition. Since then\, this Gramophone award-winning artist has headlined Lincoln Center\, Carnegie Hall\, Kennedy Center and venues worldwide. Rana delivers ravishing performances as instinctively human as they are intellectually engaged with compositional subtext. Her Convos program will highlight the technical and emotional complexities of Frédéric Chopin’s four scherzos\, ranging from tranquil and tender to terse and tense; a series of Claude Debussy études the composer considered suitable only for “remarkable hands”; and a deep exploration of emotional dissonance in an excerpt from Igor Stravinsky’s Petrushka ballet. \n\n\n\nProgram\n\n\n\nFrédéric Chopin: Scherzo No. 1 in B minor\, Op. 20 \n\n\n\nChopin: Scherzo No. 2 in B-flat minor\, Op. 31 \n\n\n\nChopin: Scherzo No. 3 in C-sharp minor\, Op. 39 \n\n\n\nChopin: Scherzo No. 4 in E major\, Op. 54 \n\n\n\nClaude Debussy: Études\, Book 1 \n\n\n\nIgor Stravinsky: Petrushka

SUMMARY:Geneva Lewis
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBorn in New Zealand but raised in the United States\, young violinist Geneva Lewis emits passion for classical music on- and off-stage. Lewis debuted onstage as an 11-year-old prodigy for the Pasadena Symphony. Whether performing solo or as part of the Callisto Trio\, Lewis has since earned national accolades for her musical prowess\, having mastered such pieces as Béla Bartók’s Violin Sonata No. 1\, Paul Schoenfeld’s Four Souvenirs\, and Georg Philip Telemann’s Fantasia No. 7 in E flat major. Lewis’s current concert violin is a Stradivarius believed to have been crafted in 1714. She also engages with communities to promote music education—inspiring children to pick up the violin bow and\, perhaps someday\, experience the thrill of standing ovations like those that often greet her performances. \n\n\n\nProgram\n\n\n\nClaude Debussy — Violin Sonata [14’] \n\n\n\nI.
